Can I whiten my teeth if I have veneers, crowns or fillings?
Many wonder if teeth whitening is possible for people with fillings, crowns, veneers, dental jewellery etc., and if so, then how will it affect the results? Here is the answer!
It is absolutely possible to whiten your teeth if you have fillings. The filling consists of inorganic composite-material and will not be affected by the teeth whitening treatment. Although, you should have in mind that the filling will not be whitened either, and it may therefore look darker afterwards, compared to the rest of the teeth. The superficial organic discoloration that is stuck on a filling will however get whiter, so it may actually seem like the filling changes to a lighter shade.
The same goes for veneers, crowns, dental jewellery etc. None of these materials will be damaged by the teeth whitening, but the material itself will not change color, nor will the surface of the real tooth underneath. Some may want to replace visible fillings or crowns after whitening, to match it to their new lighter shade.
