Fluoride-free toothpaste
Experts say that fluoride offers the best available protection against cavities. So why would anyone want to brush their teeth with fluoride-free options?
Rumors online say that fluoride is bad for the health, and that brushing your teeth with fluoride toothpaste does more harm than good. But dentists and scientists all over the world disagree. Is the rumor true or false?
Fluoride, in too large quantity, is actually not good at all for the body. But, the substance is only harmful if ingested, which is not the case for toothpaste and mouthwash. The very small traces that you ingest from proper use of toothpaste is minimal and completely harmless.

There is strong scientific evidence to support that fluoride is the best protection available against cavities. No sufficient alternatives to fluoride toothpaste have emerged, providing similar cavity prevention effect. It’s of course possible to clean the teeth with toothbrush and alternative toothpastes, but without fluoride it that will only prevent plaque, not cavities. The dentistry community and caries researchers discourages switching your toothpaste to a fluoride-free option, as it will worsen you oral health. For the same reason, all Brilliant Smile toothpastes contain fluoride!
Fun fact: At present time, Swedish 12 year olds have in average one tooth with cavity damage. It’s a vast improvement since 1960, where the average 12 year old had three teeth with cavities. The Swedish Dentist Association attests that the positive improvement is first and foremost due to the introduction of fluoride toothpaste.
